APT organized an 8-hour debate training workshop for students of Kabul University. The workshop was based on an intensive and accelerated teaching curriculum developed and monitored by Afghans for Progressive Thinking (APT)
and instructed by instructors, Suraya Yosufi and Wahab Quraishi, from APT in over a period of four days. At the first day, the recruited students were exposed to critical thinking, competitive debating and foundations of debate following by an exhibition debate and fundamentals of argumentation and refutation which happened on Day-2 of the workshop. Students learned strategic researching besides public speaking and time-management for debate on Day-3 before the workshop ended with an introduction to First Principles of important debating topics and themes. The trained students formed Kabul University Debate Club and—in an open election—Mr. Abdul Rahman and Ms. Zahra Karimi were selected as the Club Representatives for until the next semester. The club will be continuing debating activities and will be preparing to compete at APT’s Kabul Intervarsity Debate Tournament which is set to happen with the start of the next semester.
A total number of 20 students was selected from among over-100 applicants for this workshop. The workshop started on November 20, 2016 and concluded by November 24, 2016 at Lincoln Learning Center – Kabul University.
